Sanne, 32

My world keeps getting bigger

“I started with the wish to have less pain and more energy. After earlier programmes, I'm glad I dared to try again. Marja motivated me to take on this programme, and I'm so glad I listened to her.

I have less pain and make it through the day right into the evening again. But what I hadn't expected is how much else would change alongside that. I have more clarity in my head, make more conscious choices, and increasingly dare to trust myself and my body.

During a conversation with Marja I realised how many non-scale victories I had already achieved. I felt more confident and felt like I was getting back in charge of my body and my life. Marja helped me see my progress in a much broader way.

My sleep has improved a little, though I'd expected more from that. Waking up feeling fresher is a nice next goal. I'm not there yet, but I feel my world keeps getting bigger, and that I face it with much more confidence.”

Energy for my family again

“When we started, my first thought was: when are we actually going to begin? We had to keep eating the way we were used to. I was ready to change something, and wondered whether this could really be right.

Then came the changes in my habits and the conversations I had with myself. What kind of hunger am I actually feeling? Why hadn't I noticed that before? My body had apparently been giving signals all along, but I had never learned to listen to them.

By now I can do several things in one day. I sleep more deeply, wake up genuinely rested, and no longer feel like a sack of sand. I've gained more energy and also lost weight. What I'm proudest of is the time I can now spend with my family. I'm also finishing things around the house that had been left undone for lack of energy.

The weekly conversations with Marja, her advice and tips, have been very important to me. I knew where I could ask my questions. What she didn't know, she found out.

It feels like my life is falling back into a rhythm. I'm not there yet, but I have the feeling it's going to happen.”

It doesn't feel like I'm missing out

“Before starting this journey, I hadn't thought I could feel this good. I was always tired and low, and had a lot of menopause-related complaints. My goal was to lose weight, but along the way much more changed.

I sleep through the whole night again, wake up rested, and have more even energy throughout the day. I feel more calm in my body and have become more positive.

A change I really hadn't thought possible is my craving for wine. I used to drink wine almost every day before bed to relax. By the time I filled in this form, I hadn't had wine for almost eight weeks. Even on my honey day I didn't feel the need for it. I'm proud of that and grateful for it: I can go without so easily, and it doesn't feel like I'm missing out.

I had already done WILDFIT® once without a coach. This time I understand things better. I can now see an emotion or a craving for what it really is, much more clearly. The guidance and support of the group definitely helped with that.

Marja explained things clearly and was there whenever I needed motivation, advice or a recipe. I now have much more confidence that I can continue with this lifestyle after the programme.”

From a foggy head to more clarity

“I started with a head full of fog, a stomach that regularly felt like it had bicycle tyres in it, and a strong dependence on sugar. What I wanted most was a clearer head.

In the first two weeks I already noticed a sense of calm arriving. By now I have a calm, clear head, a lot of energy throughout the day, and my stomach rarely hurts anymore. My tendency to procrastinate has also greatly reduced, and I no longer experience that dependence on sugar.

My biggest insight was really: it works for me too. That relief was real. I'm proud that I went for it, and that I feel good about what I see in the mirror. I also discovered that I can cook well without a recipe book, just with a fridge full of vegetables and meat.

Beforehand I had some reservations about following the programme with Marja as my coach. I wondered whether we might be too close to each other, and whether that would feel awkward. That turned out not to be the case. I felt well supported. The clear videos and the weekly calls made the programme very doable for me.”

More calm, and looking forward to the day again

“I started on my cardiologist's advice, wanting to lose weight. Alongside that, I wanted more calm in my head and around food, more energy, and to feel better in my own skin.

During the programme I discovered how many patterns were unconscious, and how deeply ingrained my dieting mentality was. I started looking critically at my beliefs: who am I, who do I want to be, and which thoughts and habits actually aren't helping me?

I've lost eight kilos and gone from no exercise to working out three times a week. But for me the change is also in how I experience my days. I worry less, am more productive, and feel my life energy bubbling up again. I look forward to starting the next day again, and I experience more calm around food.

I'm proud that I dare to share and dare to ask for help. Marja's way of thinking is contagious. I've hugely appreciated her determination to dig into something and really understand it.

It has been a journey around the world within myself. I've discovered new perspectives, and I feel that I can feel free around food.”

More energy and trust in my body

“My biggest goal when I started WILDFIT® was to no longer have an afternoon slump and to be able to focus better throughout the whole day. Along the way, changes came that I hadn't expected beforehand: I lost much more weight than estimated, and started sleeping more deeply.

My energy is now more stable throughout the day and the afternoon slump has disappeared. I have more energy for my work and for the children. I also notice that I wake up more rested.

An important insight was recognising the six different types of hunger and being able to act on that. I've become more conscious about what I choose to eat. I place a lot of value on variety in my meals, and now more often choose good-quality products instead of the first thing I come across.

At the start there were plenty of temptations. Later that temptation largely faded into the background, and my days were so productive that I barely looked back at it.

For me WILDFIT® has been an impressive journey of discovery into the resilience of my body and mind. I've gained more trust in my body's ability to adapt. It's tough and rewarding, and for me it doesn't stop after three months.”

My biggest wish was to be able to look after my grandson myself

“When my daughter Marja asked me what I would most love to be able to do again, I knew the answer: look after my grandson independently. I wanted to be able to share his care during the holidays with his other grandmother. To be there for my children and grandchildren, and to have enough energy to enjoy that too.”

“I've lived with fibromyalgia for about 35 years, and have had psoriasis since childhood. Pain and fatigue largely determined what my days looked like. Every afternoon I had to rest for about an hour and a half. If I didn't, I would have so much pain afterwards that I could hardly sleep at night.

Planning several things in one day was barely possible. I would quickly become overstimulated and overwhelmed. Even during a family dinner I sometimes had to go to bed, because it became too much for me. Sometimes I was so tired and nauseous that even eating wasn't possible. I wanted to care for others, but often couldn't manage it.

After my husband passed away, I found myself on my own. He was the one who was fit and who caught a lot of things. My world kept getting smaller, and I hadn't expected that so much improvement was still possible.

The day I couldn't fully be part of

The turning point came during my youngest daughter's wedding. Halfway through the day I physically couldn't go on. I lay on a sofa for a few hours, hoping that rest would help me recover enough to be part of it.

That didn't work. I had to be taken home before dinner even started. I missed the meal and the whole party. Even now, talking about it still makes me sad. You want to experience such a special day with your children, but my body couldn't keep up.

More energy and more space in my head

In January I started with WILDFIT® and treatments with Marja at the practice. I wanted more energy and hoped to need less medication. Above all, I wanted to be able to pick my life back up.

During the programme I noticed I could handle more appointments in a week. I got more space in my head, slept more deeply, and saw my skin improve. I also learned to look more closely at what's in food, and started reading labels more.

Gradually I no longer needed my fixed afternoon rest. I now use that hour and a half for gardening, cycling, or something creative. I've lost about ten kilos and feel better for it. I'm now also, under the guidance of a physiotherapist, gently building up strength training, taking into account what my body can handle.

Marja is my daughter, but during this journey also my coach. Her support and enthusiasm have meant a lot to me. The group also felt good: I felt involved with the others. I'm proud that I dared to make this shift.

Almost a week together

A few months after I started, my grandson unexpectedly couldn't stay with his other grandmother. So I offered to have him come to me. He was four and a half, and stayed for almost a whole week. I looked after him on my own.

We worked together in the garden, walked the dog, and went to the playground. We cooked, played games, drew, and strung beads. We also visited his great-grandmother.

It went well, and I fully enjoyed our days together. The wish I had spoken at the start had become reality.

The feeling that I'm alive again

My pain has also strongly decreased in recent months. Where I used to need strong pain medication during the day and at night to be able to function, I now experience hardly any pain. My blood pressure improved, and in consultation with my doctors I was able to stop the blood pressure medication. After the programme I gradually started tapering off my tramadol, in close consultation with my doctor and the GP's practice nurse.

What this change means to me, I see mostly reflected in my daily life. I can do more, have room for the people I love, and can once again do something for them myself.

At the start I was asked how it would feel if I reached my goals. I wrote: ‘I would thank the heavens and jump for joy.’

Now I understand how much was behind those words. My journey has brought me what I hoped for: energy, and the feeling that I'm alive again.”
